Thanks Jon, yes, that looks like the ant, they also get into pipes and similar in the shed as well as being found around the garden.

Hi Gayle, would guess this was Polyrhachis australis, but can’t be sure from the photos. Take a look at the sightings of this species on https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/201993-Polyrhachis-australis and see if it’s your ant. Cheers, Jon
