Regional Moderators and Administrators wanted

Hi everyone,

As you know we have been working really hard to bring NatureMapr to more areas in a sustainable way.

We have turned on all of NSW, VIC and QLD and Kangaroo Island in SA at the moment, with the other remaining states on the way soon.

This is underpinned by the brand new mobile app which allows anybody to report a sighting anywhere in Australia in under a minute.

By far, the most important part of NatureMapr is YOU.

We are looking for passionate administrators, category and location moderators to be the custodians of these new regionally focused projects.

If you are interested in a leadership role within the NatureMapr community or heading up or assisting one of the new regional projects in taking shape, we would love to hear from you.

I will be spending more and more time now meeting with regional community groups and local government organisations to help establish grass root relationships between NatureMapr and the amazing people who care about biodiversity across Australia.

I want to pay particular thanks to Dr Michael Mulvaney and Michael Bedingfield for all that they are doing at the moment as we expand our coverage. There is a lot of load on our team and we are continually improving the software platform to make everyones' jobs easier.

Thank you for your continued support everyone.

Cheers

Aaron.

Hello Aaron
I don't know if you can only moderate your own region/LGA, but if not I'd be happy to expand my remit on birds to a broader area, the whole of Australia or if that is too much the whole of New and ACT.
Let me know what works for you.
Cheers
Nige

Hi Nigel,

You can definitely moderate other LGAs beyond the area you live.

Thanks very much for your assistance - we'll get your access organised shortly.

Cheers

Aaron.

Hi Aaron, I would be keen to help but what sort of skills are required? I'm not sure I have the required skills. Thanks. Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Thank you very much. You don't need to be an expert. Many of our moderators learn on the job and become better over time, the most important thing is that you are just interested in learning how to identify different species in your chosen categories which you can practise and get better at over time.

Which categories and/or regions were you interested in Sarah?

Cheers

Aaron.

Hi @Gavin,

Thanks heaps for your message and interest in being a moderator in the Evans Head / North Coast region.

We are really excited to you have you on board!

We just need to know which particular categories of plants/animals are you interested in?

E.g. Fish, Birds, Wattles, Orchids etc. Then we can setup your access. You will then start to receive alerts whenever a new sighting within any of those categories comes into the platform. You'll also receive access to some additional tools and data as well.

Cheers

Aaron.

Hi Gavin,

I've just set you up as a moderator for birds on North Coast Nature Map.

You'll notice some extra options around the site now and you'll also be notified whenever somebody reports a bird sighting to see if you can help identify it.

Thanks heaps and please let me know if you have any questions!

Cheers

Aaron.

I don't really mind Aaron. as long as they are southern NSW or central or eastern Victoria. I haven't done much birding in western victoria, but would be ok with the common to midling birds. Does the ID'ing come at me via the emails inside AWNM?

Hi Aaron and Naturemapr’s - I can help with plant identification and some animals. Hoping to contribute more in the future. I have worked at the Australian National Botanic Gardens and CSIRO Herbarium and am a qualified horticulturist and landscaper.

Hi Aaron
I am not sure where to post this but here goes. I have recently been uploading records for the Blue Gum Point to Attunga Point area. These are being ascribed to 'Yarralumla'. I have checked the lat longs in the upload meta data with the lat longs in Google Earth. They consistently fall inside the Blue Gum to Attunga Point area.
kind regards

@AaronClausen, when you make Tasmania part of the platform I'm happy to help there. I've lived for over a decade in the isle and I got a lot of experience in Tassie. Cheers, Birdy

Thanks heaps Birdy. We hope to expand into Tas later this year. Lots of exciting things on the way for later this year. I will be working on NatureMapr on a more semi full time basis. Thanks and let's stay in touch!

Hi Aaron, I'm a Moderator for a few categories. I know some local species for these but perhaps my best ID skills are with leaf beetle and Lady Beetles so I would be willing to expand to be a Moderator for these in all other regions. I'm sure there is a lot of overlap. Sorry for only nominating for such a limited field but perhaps as I feel I know other species I can broaden this. Regards Alison

Hi Aaron, I'm currently a bird moderator for Albury-Wodonga and Kangaroo Island nature maps. As someone who is based in South Australiz, wondering if I could be assigned bird moderator for the South Australia platform? Feel like I could apply some bird knowledge to the platform. Cheers, Sam

G'day @AaronClausen , could I also mod for mammals in the Hume and Loddon-Mallee regions in Vic, and in the Riverina-Murray region in NSW? I'm also happy to mod for birds, mammals and plants in the NSW Central West and Far West regions.
